GB13COL

13 Colonies Special Event

Durham and District Amateur Radio Society (DADARS) is proud to participate as a “Bonus Station” for the 13 Colonies Special Event. This will be the 18th year since this popular event began. GB13COL (Ofcom NOV) is hosted from the QTH of DADARS (G4EUZ) within Bowburn Community Association, near Durham and we will offer SSB, CW, FM & Digital Modes during event. As well as the historical connection between our two countries, this will make it more challenging for our Amateur Radio friends across the pond and else where.

13 Colonies is an annual event held during the 4th Of July Week. The primary goal of the event for radio amateurs is to work all 13 Colonies (K2A – K2M), plus the bonus stations WM3PEN, GB13COL & TM13COL to gain recognition on a certificate. You do not need to make a contact with all 13 to get the certificate. However, getting all 13 is known as a Clean Sweep. A Full Sweep includes the additional 3 bonus stations. This makes it more challenging.

During the 2024 special event 292, 426 QSOs logged.

All HF bands will be in play, including the WARC bands, with the exception of 60 meters. Simplex on 2 meters and 6 meters is encouraged. The SE stations are on the east coast and, are very close to each other. It will be harder for these states to contact each other so, use of 40m-160m is encouraged.

All modes of operation may be represented – SSB, CW, RTTY, Digital, Etc. – The mode of operation is up to the individual Colony state station / Bonus station. Please refer to the State / Bonus stations information pages for details.
